NEWS: Anthony Bennett Is Something The Raptors Aren’t…. A CHAMPION! [KingpinTV.net]

Although the painful memory has faded because LeBron James has uplifted the franchise, it wasn’t too long ago when the Cavs were haunted by taking Anthony Bennett with the first pick overall in the draft. That didn’t work out so well, and Bennett was a throw-in for the trade that brought Kevin Love to Cleveland. After bouncing around a few years in the league, Bennett took his battered reputation overseas and can now call himself a champion, if nothing else. Continue reading

NEWS: NBA Legend Bill Russell Arrested! [KingpinTV.net]

Legendary NBA center Bill Russell was arrested Wednesday at the Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) Airport when a loaded handgun was allegedly found in his luggage, according to multiple reports.
KING-5 News and KIRO-TV in Seattle both report that Russell, 79, was arrested after a loaded .38-caliber handgun was found during a Transportation Security Administration screening of his carry-on bag.

Russell reportedly had a permit for the weapon, which was confiscated. KIRO-TV reported that Russell, who has since been released, was cited by the Port of Seattle for carrying a weapon in a prohibited area and that the TSA will assess a monetary penalty.

KOMO News reports additional details.

The 11-time NBA champion was arrested just after 9 p.m. when Transportation Security Administration workers found a loaded .38 caliber Smith & Wesson firearm in his carry-on bag, according to Lorie Dankers with the TSA. The Port of Seattle Police arrested and cited the 79-year-old on a state charge. He was released that night, but his gun was confiscated, according to airport spokesman Perry Cooper.
In addition to winning 11 titles with the Celtics in the 1950s and 1960s, Russell was a five-time MVP and 12-time All-Star during his Hall of Fame career. After retiring in 1969, Russell went on to coach the Celtics, SuperSonics and Kings. The NBA has named its Finals MVP trophy in his honor, and Russell was on hand in Miami in June to present the award to Heat forward LeBron James.

Russell has been honored in countless ways in recent years. The Celtics announced in 2011 that Russell, who lives in Washington state, will be honored with a commemorative statue in Boston’s City Hall Plaza that will be unveiled in November. In May of this year, Phil Jackson paid Russell the ultimate basketball compliment, saying that he would select the Celtics center over Michael Jordan if he was starting a team from scratch.

In recognition of his achievements both on and off the court, President Barack Obama awarded Russell the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011.

“Bill Russell is the former Boston Celtics’ Captain who almost single-handedly redefined the game of basketball,” a White House statement read. “Russell led the Celtics to a virtually unparalleled string of eleven championships in thirteen years and was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player five times. The first African American to coach in the NBA—indeed he was the first to coach a major sport at the professional level in the United States—Bill Russell is also an impassioned advocate of human rights. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and has been a consistent advocate of equality.”

PHOTOS: Latina Groupie Who Tried To Crash LeBron’s Wedding! [KingpinTV.net]

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

While King James wedded his Queen, rumor has it that this young lady tried to slip past security to “speak her piece.”

Her name is Aljaree “AJ” Williams. Rumor also has it that she was LBJ’s sidechick for a minute.

Thankfully she was forcibly removed and no guests were disturbed. Nice eye candy though

NEWS: Lebron James Puts A Ring On It! [KingpinTV.net]

Sorry ladies but the king has found his queen.

As per CBS sports, LeBron got hitched, according to a report. It had been planned for this weekend for months, including a super-elaborate invitation that protected the couple’s privacy superbly, according to all accounts. But on Saturday, the knot was tied, from Us Weekly:

The newlyweds said “I do” at the Grand Del Mar hotel in San Diego, Calif., and were joined by some of their famous friends, including fellow NBA star Dwyane Wade, his actress love Gabrielle Union and singer Neyo.

Savanah Brinson’s engagement ring was freaking huge. Alongside Wade, you can bet on other stars in attendance. Instagram photos should start popping up Sunday.

TMZ has also reported that rapper Jay-Z and wife Beyonce were in attendance and the pop star even performed her hit “Crazy In Love” at the reception.

James and Brinson have been together since high school and were engaged on New Year’s Eve, 2011. They have two sons together.

Not a bad year for the King.

OPINION: Lebron Is On The Path To Surpass Michael Jordan [KingpinTV*net]

Editor’s note. This is merely opinion and not to be taken too seriously. Michael Jordan is widely considered the greatest of all time. Lebron James has reached his peak. These two factors spark debate among basketball purists and fans alike

With the attenion now surrounding Lebron James after winning his first title and establishing himself as the the most dominate player in the NBA what’s next for the man known as LBJ?

Statistically he has surpassed his supersstar teamate Dwyane Wade. Lebron has also proved more efficient than Kobe Bryant. The next hurdle is to go for the crown: Supassing Michael Jordan.

Michael has been widely regarded as the gold standard to surpass. It is a daunting task when dealing with the spectre of Jordan. There isn’t a need to go over MJ’s accomplishments. They are of legend.

A statistical comparison between Jordan and Lebron show this: We may be looking at the next MJ.

Now right now you might have unfollowed me on twitter or have just started to prepare a hate mail letter about even putting James in the class of Michael but lets examine the most efficient seasons measured by PER in NBA history (Bear in mind PER doesn’t take into account older legends and defensive stoppers)

The Player efficiency rating (PER) is ESPN Insider writer John Hollinger’s all-in-one basketball rating, which attempts to boil down all of a player’s contributions into one number. Using a detailed formula, Hollinger developed a system that rates every player’s statistical performance.

PER strives to measure a player’s per-minute performance, while adjusting for pace. A league-average PER is always 15.00, which permits comparisons of player performance across seasons.

PER takes into account positive accomplishments, such as field goals, free throws, 3-pointers, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals, and negative ones, such as missed shots, turnovers and personal fouls. The formula adds positive stats and subtracts negative ones through a statistical point value system. The rating for each player is then adjusted to a per-minute basis so that, for example, substitutes can be compared with starters in playing time debates. It is also adjusted for the team’s pace. In the end, one number sums up the players’ statistical accomplishments for that season.

Now like all statistical formulas there is room for error. PER is generally considered one of the best measures of player efficiency. Here is an idea of the numbers:

  • A Year For the Ages: 35.0
  • Runaway MVP Candidate: 30.0
  • Strong MVP Candidate: 27.5
  • Weak MVP Candidate: 25.0
  • Bona fide All-Star: 22.5
  • Borderline All-Star: 20.0
  • Solid 2nd option: 18.0
  • 3rd Banana: 16.5
  • Pretty good player: 15.0
  • In the rotation: 13.0
  • Scrounging for minutes: 11.0
  • Definitely renting: 9.0
  • The Next Stop: DLeague 5.0

Now let’s take a look at the top 5 most efficient seasons in NBA History based on PER:

  1. Wilt Chamberlain:  31.84     1962 – 1963
  2. Wilt Chamberlain:  31.76      1961 – 1962
  3. Michael Jordan:      31.71      1987 – 1988
  4. Lebron James           31.67     2008 – 2009
  5. Wilt Chamberlain:  31.64    1963 – 1964

As you can see Mr Chamberlain is up there as well, but we will discuss him at another time.  Michael and Lebron are numbers 3 and 4

Now, ere are the career PER leaders:

  1. Michael Jordan: 27.91
  2. Lebron James: 27.24
  3. Shaquille O’Neal: 26.43
  4. David Robinson: 26.18
  5. Wilt Chamberlain: 26.13

Lebron and Michael are virtually tied. The difference is Lebron can still change his numbers. Michael can’t

Now just like Lebron’s teammate Dwyane Wade and the rest of the world will say Lebron has a long way to go before surpassing his airness but the numbers PER wise don’t lie. Lebron James is on the path to surpass Michael Jordan

NEWS: Scottie Pippen Says LeBron Is “Better” Than Jordan???

Scottie Pippen sent shock waves throughout the sports world today when he suggested that LeBron James “may be” the greatest player to ever lace up a pair of sneakers. Even better than Michael Jordan.

Most people could not believe their ears and some even questioned Pippen’s sanity. Michael Jordan is a Sacred Cow as far as most sports writers and fans are concerned. “He is the greatest ever,” goes the mantra. “No one will ever be better than him. Not Kobe Bryant, not LeBron.” The only fact that anyone has to bring up to end all comparisons is, “Jordan has six rings. LeBron has none.”

So for a former teammate of Jordan’s to come out and say that LeBron may be better player, it sounds like blasphemy to most.

To be fair, Pippen did preface his comment by stating, “Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game.”

Even though Kareem Abdul Jabbar is the All Time Leading Scorer in NBA history, I see where Pippen is coming from. He has to try to differentiate between Jordan and LeBron. It’s like when so many sports casters didn’t want to say Kobe was better than LeBron, they started saying Kobe was the best “closer” in the game. But LeBron was still the best “player.” He was just trying to soften what was coming next. (Global Grind)

NEWS: LeBron Launches “Sheets” For Energy, Endorsed By Drake & Pitbull!

LeBron James has teamed with Top Brand Executives Warren Struhl, Jesse Itzler and Maverick Carter to create a holding company named PureBrands, which will launch a new energy delivery system, “Sheets” energy strips.

The new Sheets energy strips will be backed by a $10 million dollar marketing campaign with rappers Drake, Pitbull and basketball star Amar’e Stoudemire.

“Taking a Sheet is part of my pre-game and halftime ritual,” said co-founder LeBron James. “I’ve tried tons of other products in the past and none compare. Sheets are a smart and convenient way to get energy.”

Sheets are dissolvable, paper-thin strips that are placed on the tongue and dissolved and digested, delivering hours of energy.

The Sheets don’t melt, have no calories, no carbohydrates, no sugar and require no water.

“I’m excited that Sheets has cracked the code on energy delivery,” added CEO Warren Struhl. “Our athlete and celebrity partners have played a key role in the innovation process and worked collaboratively with our world-class scientists to make the best possible energy product on the market. We’re thrilled to launch Sheets today and look forward to working with the team to develop future products using our proprietary Sheets technology.”

Pitbull and his team have entered into a new partnership with Sheets to spearhead the entire launch of the brand to the Hispanic market.

“I approached the Sheets team after using the product and becoming a believer,” said Pitbull. “Like any product I get involved with my main goal is always to empower the Latin community. The guys at Sheets handed me and my crew the keys to make sure it’s done the right way.”

Sheets is slated to launch nationwide in June 2011. (AllHipHop)
